Please Spend This Here $10,000,000,000

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has just offered you one-quarter of its endowment--10 billion dollars--to spend on charitable endeavors of your choice. They also stipulate that you must spend it or lose it; no investments possible. What would your plan be? Be specific and thoughtful, I'm very interested in your answers. My guess is that the answers will vary drastically. I'll include all of the responses in a main post when enough people have responded, unless you request otherwise.

Have fun!

Build you your own accelerator?

I would use a chunk of it to find as many people as I could who needed some vital or life altering (from my point of view) surgery/transplants/etc that otherwise wouldn't be able to happen and pay for it. Then I would hire a camouflage army of ants to knock down the border fence (I hear they work for cheap, so I'd have a lot left...). I would pay for research on diseases that are grossly underfunded because not as many people have them so the demand is not as high. I have no concept of how much all of this would cost, so, if there was some money left after that, I think I might pay the fees for stable families to adopt refugee children from war torn nations, if the countries would let them in.

real-- you would buy an accelerator?

Well, the price is right from his previous post, right?

Actually, the number here is so high that once you get above about a million dollars I really don't have a clue how much stuff costs. I mean, right now, there's really no difference in my mind between $100,000,000 and $1,000,000,000. That's just so much money and the things that cost in those ranges are just totally beyond my mental grasp.

I have no idea how much money that actually is.

Well, if you can't spend $10B, tell me at least what you would spend money on, assuming you had "plenty." Basically, what do you think should be the top priorities for charity money?

By the way, it was I, trogonpete, and not mandamommy, who wrote that question about whether you would really buy an accelerator. I didn't realize she was logged in...

Just to give an idea how much money this is, by the way:

If you gave grants of 1 million dollars each to various organizations, you could give such grants to 10,000 organizations.

Just thinking about that much money turns me evil. I'm picturing bribing government officials to let refugee children into the country (and other developed countries) and other things like that... Not that I would ever DO it, but the thoughts come to my mind to accomplish the purpose...
